We hope you are now waking up from the Christmas slumber full of turkey and roast potatoes and ready to go. Whilst we dodge covid and do our best to participate in Dry January, we can distract ourselves with the prospects of 2022 - new colleagues, fresh projects and a state-of-the-art facility in the heart of Shoreditch. The opening of our Nile Street facility has brought with it some of the best Dolby Atmos Studios, HDR & UHD Picture Finishing suites and over 30 of the best offlines around. It’s safe to say, we are excited!

For us, the past year was a one of change, for diversity and inclusivity, for breaking barriers and contributing to the movement required in our industry. Therefore, it's important to us at Splice to have made connections with two incredible non-profit organisations - Inspire & MAMA Youth Project.

Inspire is a local charity with a mission to improve young people’s access to different industries and careers within them, whilst MAMA Youth equips young people with the skills and experience necessary to succeed in the TV and media industry. Together, we have worked to bring diverse talent through our doors and increase opportunities for young and upcoming creatives in post-production.

Within our thriving team, we’ve had personal victories to celebrate too! It was our great joy to see Colourist Connor O'Neill win a Young Talent award at the Broadcast Tech Innovation Awards. We ended the year on a high and were incredibly proud to be shortlisted for a Broadcast Award for Best Post-Production House!

Not only that, we are also excitedly anticipating the 2022 Broadcast Awards for the outcome of various nominations for some really special projects we’ve been involved in the last year. Damilola: The Boy Next Door, nominated for Best Documentary Programme, Dreaming Whilst Black, for Best Comedy Programme, 9/11: One Day in America for Best Documentary Series, Krept & Konan: We Are England for Best Original Programme and The Surrogates is up for Best Popular Factual Programme.

Keeping up with the creativity, at the end of last year we were thrilled to announce our new artist in residence - Poppy Chancellor! All her pieces are hand-cut from paper and transformed into giant shimmering artworks in Splice's hallways. ‘’These pieces reflect the ups and downs of the past few years, especially in lockdown. Learning to rest and relax at a time filled with grief and uncertainty was a challenge. Making with my hands, spending hours papercutting has always been a soothing act of creation for me, ‘’ Poppy’s inspiring pieces now brighten the walls around each of our facilities, reminding us all to ‘take a deep breath’ from time to time!

2021 was a year of work, and equally - a lot of play. With the help of our Edit Assistant Matt, we assembled AFC Splice. It’s been an opportunity for us to chase after a ball for an hour and enjoy some jovial banter. We didn’t aim to be super competitive, but somehow we have ended up at the top of the league. Who knows, maybe this year All or Nothing: AFC Splice will be made?

So thanks to 2021, you were interesting, challenging, frustrating at times, but also rewarding and we're grateful but we're done with you now. It's over. 2022 it's time for us.

We wish everyone the best New Year! Here’s to 2022!
