My alarm goes off…
At the moment I am training for a 100-mile cycle Ride London in August, so when I’m not too exhausted in the morning then I’ll get up & cycle to work. I’m not a morning person but a good cycle wakes me up nicely.
I’m responsible for…
I'm an Online Editor here at Splice. Online is the last stage of editing, we get the show after it’s been offline edited and graded. In online we master the program ready for delivery, basically, making sure it's up to the broadcasters specification... and that’s what I do!
I got my job…
I started at Splice as an Assistant Online Editor, which is what I always wanted to do. Luckily Splice was using Avid Symphony, which is what I had been trained on so it was a good fit and then around a year later I was promoted to a full-time Online Editor.
My typical day…
There’s no such thing as a typical day, it will really depend on what I've been booked on. We're really lucky to work across a vast range of content so one day it might be a TV commercial the next day a feature documentary and so on! If I have clients attending my session, I’ll prep the job ahead of them coming in, they'll normally arrive with notes and a plan of what they want to achieve and I'll set about delivering that for them ready to review.
My most memorable work moment…
For me, the first thing that pops to mind is Simon Amstell’s feature documentary; Carnage: Swallowing the Past. It was such a great project to work on and meeting Simon Amstell was so great, he’s just the nicest guy.
The best part of my job…
I don’t think I could have a job that isn’t creative, so having that is great...and also making shows that people like is pretty good too!
The worst part of my job…
We need to work in the dark in order to see the screens properly, so at this time of year when the sun is shining, that's the worst part as you can imagine!
After work…
As well as cycling, I play bass in a band and on Mondays I play 5-a-side football. I've got into the habit of baking sourdough bread over the weekend to take to work for breakfast or lunch...I’ve just realised that's like the most Shoreditch thing I could have said (laughs!)
My Plan B…
There are two options for me - I’d either be a director, something that I wanted to do when I was younger actually, or I'd go for it and become a professional bass player.
