My alarm goes off…
I love a lie in but if I have to be awake for something then I will be but it might mean pressing snooze for at least 3 times (laughs)! I’ve recently started walking to work and it gets me into a nice mood for the day. It takes me an hour so that way I can get in a load of comedy podcasts. My favourites at the minute are Off Menu with Ed Gamble & James Acaster and The Adam Buxton Podcast.
I’m responsible for…
I’m a month into my new role as Head of CTA in the Old Street facility and I’m responsible for making sure my team and I have an efficient day and that everyone is happy. Our responsibilities cover all sorts such as conforms, offline edit support and ingest.
I got my job…
I started at Splice as a runner, moving up to media librarian then junior edit assistant up to senior edit assistant and now Head of CTA.
When I first started, I was aiming to become a colourist, but lately, I've taken an interest in the more technical side of things. Simon (my line manager) sparked my curiosity, he's played a huge part in my training and would always ask me questions about workflows or trouble-shooting, pushing me to solve problems myself and ultimately that's got me more involved in that side of things. I've been at Splice for 4 years now, it's been a lot of consistent hard work but I'm really enjoying this new route I'm now on.
My typical day…
There’s no such thing! Previously as a Senior Edit Assistant, I used to do 12-hour shifts, but now I do 8-hour days so now I feel like I am literally in a work bubble and the days go so much quicker.
My most memorable work moment…
When a certain someone at Splice managed to sort out a picture with the People Just Do Nothing’s co-writer Steve Stamp and director Jack Clough. That was the best day! I have been a fan of the show for a long time and it was quite an unreal moment. Another awesome moment was when I got to have a small chat with Julian Barratt who came in for a voiceover - I love The Mighty Boosh, it’s such a comedy classic.
The worst part of my job…
That used to be easier to answer when I was working overnight and at the weekends (laughs) but I guess in this new role, I am still learning so sometimes it can be a little overwhelming when I feel like I'm doing 50 things at once!
The best part of my job…
...are the people at Splice! I am also very appreciative that the Old Street machine room team made it so easy for me to settle into my new role.
After work…
I like going for a drink, going to the cinema or to see a comedy gig - all the usual fun activities. I would definitely recommend Soho Theatre, they have cheap tickets and great up and coming comedians.
My Plan B...
Have I mentioned comedy…? Comedy development, script supervising or something in that field.
